Feeling 22

“Tonight’s the night we forget about the deadlines. Its time, uh oh.” T  Swift

I feel as if I have spent my entire life meeting deadlines. The energy I constantly spend on being early or on time for EVERYTHING. Everything from overscheduling meetings, cramming in lunches, completing homework early. Literally any and everything! I don’t know about you, but by doing this, I find myself mentally and physically exhausted. This year I am going to focus more on the present. The EXACT moment I am in.

I don’t want to think about how far I have come or how far I have to go. I want to think about what this exact moment feels like. Too often, as twenty somethings we are pushed by society to constantly be thinking of the future. We often become so fixated on the future that we forget to live in the present.

At 22, be more committed to being present. Forgetting all the deadlines that you put on yourself, and realizing that it’s important at 22 to just be YOU. Spend this time to learn things about yourself, explore more, travel, love a lot, love a little, and just literally do all your heart desires! Reflect on how blessed you are with the people in your life. Just take a look around at the people who celebrate you! Don’t for one minute think 22 is just another year. It’s never just “another year.”

Dress up, stand out, dance with your friends in the middle of a crowd, order dinner in and watch a movie with your dog. Do whatever the heck makes YOU happy. Because in the end, your happiness is all that matters. And people will notice when your happiness begins to change, I can promise you that.

Eat the extra piece of cake, make a wish when you blow out the candles, believe in the magic.

22, here’s to you.
