8 Tips for a Girl Boss Morning

With school starting back, I have been trying to make the most of every single day! With a new class schedule, my routine has changed a lot from what it has been my last few years of college. I finally have mornings completely open! Typically I would have 8 a.m. classes, which means rushing to get ready and out the door with not a lot of time to focus on me.

Now I have time to take Shiloh to the park, workout, shower and get completely ready, including an outfit that matches and a dry head of hair for class. Instead of sleeping in, I have been doing my best to make the most of these quiet mornings at home. It is so easy to fall into the sleeping in routine, wasting time, not focusing on using time wisely. But I have really been trying to focus on being a girl boss each and every day. With that being said, I wanted to share with y’all a few tips to make the most of your mornings…

  1. Wake up early
  2. Let in the daylight and fresh air
  3. Light a candle
  4. Rehydrate with lemon water or tea
  5. Listen to or read positive affirmations
  6. Stretch!
  7. Cook a nutritious breakfast
  8. Give thanks, be patient, remind yourself to make the most of the day

When I say wake up early, I mean I set an alarm for 7 a.m. and take my time getting to the park with Shiloh or the shower. I don’t hit snooze, I start watching the news or catch up on emails and texts from the night before. I try and keep my mind awake and focused because I am definitely a morning person! This is where I am my most productive throughout the day so I try and make the most of that time!

I always always always make my bed and open my blinds to the windows every morning! Natural light leads to higher productivity, boosts your vitamin D storage, and improves your mood. In the fall I will crack the windows or an outside door to bring in that morning brisk air feel, but right now in Nashville it is 120 degrees… So, fall hurry up (please).

Candles or oil diffusers are my idea of happiness… I love good clean smelling candles or oils. They awake your brain and help with creativity. With blogging/influencing creativity is a huge part of how we function. Creating new ideas and thought processes day in and day out is a lot more difficult than most realize. Certain smells trigger different thoughts. Lemon, cinnamon, and peppermint help boost mood and productivity. These are also 3 of my favorite scents to keep in my room!

Lemon water saves lives. I have talked about detox water before and I really believe in the power of lemons and your body. From a hot tea on a fall morning with lemon added to a glass of lemon water, the benefits are endless.

I was recently told I should read the book “Girl, Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis. I’m not going to lie, it is really hard to take time to read right now because of my class schedule. So instead, I bought this book on iBooks. Every morning when I am at the sauna or walking to class, I listen to 10-30 minutes. For me, this has been a great way to take time to listen to someone else speak while learning from her experiences. In the future, I plan to make more time to read physical books and to take time for myself when listening to motivational podcasts.

Fun fact about myself… I can’t touch my toes (lol). I am a very stiff person because I never give myself the time to stretch and to breathe day to day. I often move from one place to the next without stopping to take care of my body, aka the stiffness. To incorporate this into my routine, while Shiloh is playing at the park I try and take a walking lap around the park. And at the end, stretch out my arms and attempt to touch my toes. That way she gets to play and I can be productive!

Breakfast is my FAVORITE meal of the day! I really try and take the time to eat something I love or to try a little coffee spot near school. My go-to is typically oatmeal or a bagel with fruit of some sort. It only takes a few minutes and can set the tone for your entire day!

Every morning I talk to both of my parents and Shiloh (duh). My dad sends me a good morning text and we always end the conversation with “love you.” My mom and I talk about our schedules for the day and about if we slept well or bad the night before. I always tell Shiloh how perfect she is and how much happiness she brings me each and every day. Love on your people (and animals), have a meaningful conversation in the morning, and plan for a productive day in some shape or form. It can be a mental day, a self-pamper day, or a “check off the list” type day. Make the most of every moment.
